On the Erick Erickson coat hanger tweet

For those who don’t know, Erick Erickson is the founder of Red State and a Fox News contributor. This is what he tweeted Friday night/Saturday morning. It’s a coat hanger abortion reference.

Brief history lesson. In the days prior to Roe v. Wade, some desperate women resorted to using coat hangers or knitting needles to induce abortions. For what should be obvious reasons, for some of those women it ended in internal injuries, sepsis, and even death. I’m not here to discuss the morality of abortion because I think that no matter what you believe about its rightness or wrongness, we should all agree that women dying or being permanently maimed from coat hanger abortions is no laughing matter. It’s certainly not something to be cracking taunting jokes about.

Back in my teenage activist days, I thought the, “Pro-life, that’s a lie, you don’t care if women die,” chants were hyperbole that wasn’t grounded in fact.

I guess I was wrong.

If you think this is how to be pro-life, you’re doing it very, very wrong. Pro-life should be about honoring and respecting all life. This is just pro-birth. They aren’t the same.
